The World's Largest Swinging Bell, "The World Peace Bell" was created by "The Verdin Company", installed at "The Millennium Monument" site in Newport, Kentucky.....

NEWPORT, KENTUCKY --- "The World Peace Bell" in Newport, after five years of being open to public by appointment only, has found a new life as an office building... A non-profit economic development agency known as Southland Partners moved into the "World Peace Bell Center" alongside the "66,000 pound bell", one of the largest in the world...."The World Peace Bell", cast in Nantes, France in 1998, first rang officially December 31, 1999.  The proposed 600-1,200-foot tower, restaurant and gyro ride to go along with the bell never materialized.... "The World Peace Bell" has a "powerful ring" as may be heard via an Internet site...

PATRIOTIC EVENTS have become regular scenes at the bell.  In 2009, more than 120 people gathered at the bell to honor nine local soldiers who died in Iraq and Afghanistan.  South bank's move is a new beginning for the bell, says Wally pagan, chairman of the Newport-Southbank Bridge Company that oversees the Purple People Bridge and a board member of Southbank.  "There was a great hoopla when it arrived and then it faded for a long time,"Pagan says. Now it is going to be reinvented. It is a beautiful setting--- and this  Writer agrees. "The Peace Bell's symbolism and message does resonate with certain groups"....
